AR-FFFP Alcohol Resistant Film Forming                            Fluoro-Protein #3% AR-FFFP Technical Data Sheet

foam index page

                                                  Description

Alcohol Resistant Film Forming Fluoro-Protein (AR-FFFP)  FFFP Foam Concentrate is manufactured by combining the very latest Fluorocarbon Surface Active Agents with a protein based foam concentrate. When mixed with water in the correct proportion, a very fluid and stable foam is generated. This foam blanket gives rapid knock down of hydrocarbon type fires due to the film forming characteristics of the draining foam solution. The presence of the protein in the foam makes a slow draining foam with excellent burn back resistance.

The Fire House Quality 3%-6% AR-FFFP is intended for use at a pro- portioning rate of 3% (3 parts FFFP to 97 parts water) on class B hydrocarbon type fuels such as gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc. The 3% FFFP is not intended for use on fuels which are polar solvent/water miscible, such as alcohols, ketones, esters, etc.

AR-FFFP is an Alcohol Resistant Film Forming Fluoro-Protein foam concentrate recommended for use on hydrocarbon fuels at 3% and polar solvent fuels at 6%. It is the best protein derived fire fighting foam concentrate available and can be used on more applications than standard FFFP or fluoro-protein foam concentrates.

The FIREHOUSE Quality  FFFP is a derivative of AFFF and fluoro-protein, an increased quanity of fluoro-carbon surfactants have been added, which allows a quicker knock down and added burn back resistance compared to standard fluoro-protein foam. It is available in 3% and 6% concentrate that is UL listed and UK Ministry approved.

The FIREHOUSE Quality FFFP can be used with air-aspirating and non-air aspirating sprinkler heads and spray nozzles, air aspirating hand lines and monitor nozzles, foam makers and sub-surface base injection for storage tanks on hydrocarbon fuels.

  • Proportioning rate at 3% on hydrocarbon and 6% on polar fuel fires
  • Benefits: Best protein-derived concentrate available.
  • UL 162 Listed, "Foam Liquid Concentrates" and UK-MOD-42-22 approved

                                   PROPORTIONING

The FIREHOUSE Quality 3% or 6% FFFP concentrate is suitable for use with the following types of proportioning equipment.

  • Fixed or portable in-line eductors
  • In-line balanced pressure and pump pressure proportioning skid
  • Bladder tank balanced pressure proportioning systems
  • Around the pump proportioners
  • Handline, air-aspirating nozzles with fixed eductor pickup tube

                                    DISCHARGE DEVICES

The FIREHOUSE recommends that 3% Fluoroprotein be used only through air-aspirating discharge devices such as:

  • Foam Chambers
  • High back pressure foam maker (subsurface)
  • Air-aspirating foam nozzles
  • Air-aspirating sprinkler heads and spray nozzles

These types of discharge devices will give optimum performance, expansion and drainage times.

                                    APPLICATIONS

The FIREHOUSE Quality 3% FFFP will provide quality protection for a wide range of hazardous areas such as:

  • Crash Fire Rescue
  • Storage tanks non-polar solvent type fuels only)
  • Truck/Rail loading or unloading facilities
  • Processing/Storage facilities
  • Docks/Marine tankers
  • Flammable liquid containment areas
  • Mobile equipment

                                FOAMING  PROPERTIES

The foaming properties/expansion will vary depending on the type of discharge device, inlet pressure and flow rate. When tested to U.L. specifications and used with an air-aspirating nozzle, the expansion ratio should be at least 7 to 1 or higher with a 25% drain time of at least 5 minutes. When used through a standard water fog nozzle an expansion ratio of between 2 - 4 to 1 should be obtained with a 25% drain time of at least 2 minutes.

                        TYPICAL PROPERTIES  at 77F (25C)

      ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

3% FFFP firefighting foam is biodegradable, low in toxicity and can be treated in sewage treatment plants. This product does not contain any "heavy metal" salts such as zinc chloride which are objectionable to environmental authorities.

     STORAGE  / SHELF LIFE

If kept in the original manufacturer's supplied container(s) and stored within the temperature range of 20F - 104F (-6C - 40) a shelf life in excess of 10 years can be expected. The FIREHOUSE Quality 3% FFFP firefighting foam will not sludge out during storage even under short term elevated storage temperatures.
