foam index page

                                                  Description

Class A Foams/Wetting Agents -- The FIREHOUSE quality Class A fire fighting foam concentrate is a mixture of foaming and wetting agents. When proportioned with water it changes the properties of the water, reducing the surface tension and allowing for greater penetration in all Class A fuel and wild land fires. It also gives the water a foaming ability allowing it to remain and cling to the surfaces without run off. Class A is effective in fighting forest fires and many deep-seated fires such as tires, paper, and wooden structures. CLASS A PLUS FOAM

  • The FIREHOUSE Quality Class A Plus is a noncorrosive, non-toxic biodegradable Class A fire fighting foam concentrate and is suitable for use through medium expansion discharge devices, compressed air foam systems (CAFS) and arial bambi buckets.
  • Recommended application rates from 0.1% to 1.0%. Class A Plus is manufactured, tested and evaluated in accordance with NFPA 298, specifications for Class A foams for wild land fires, helicopter bucket operations, and ground applications.
  • Benefits: 3 to 5 times more effective than plain water.
  • The FIREHOUSE Quality Class A fire fighting foam is a non-corrosive, non-toxic, biodegradable Class A Fire Fighting Foam Concentrate. When mixed with water in the correct proportion, it changes the properties of water. It reduces the surface tension of the water, and produces foam which allows the water to cling to vertical or horizontal surfaces without run off. This allows the water to absorb more heat and provides greater penetration into Class A fuels.

                                                   FEATURES

    • Can be used with either fresh or salt water
    • Can be used with non-air-aspirating or aspirating handline nozzles · FIREHOUSE Quality Class A fire fighting foam is suitable for use with helicopter Bambi bucket
    • Suitable for use with Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS)
    • Suitable for use on rubber (tires), coal, paper and many other types of Class A fuels
    • Suitable for use through medium expansion nozzles on Class A or contained Class B flammable liquids
    • Suitable for use with high expansion foam generators
    • Manufactured with materials that do not appear on any federal register under Sara Title III, Sec. 313 of the Federal Superfund and Emergency Planning Regulations

                        RECOMMENDED APPLICATION RATES

    •  Helicopter Bambi Bucket .3% - .5%
    •  Handline, air-aspirating nozzle .3% - .5%
    •  Handline, non-air-aspirating nozzle .3% - .6%
    •  Compressed air foam system (CAFS) .1% - .3%

Note: The above rates vary depending on the quality of the foam blanket required.

       FOAM PROPERTIES

The FIREHOUSE Quality Class A wildland fire fighting foam is dependent on many different factors. Which include:

    • Type of discharge device
    • System operating pressure
    • Amount of foam concentrate in the water

                                           PROPORTIONING

The FIREHOUSE Quality Class A fire fighting foam concentrate is suitable for use with most conventional foam pro-portioning equipment. Which include:

    • Hypro Corporation Proportioning Systems
    • Flow mix model 500 foam proportioner
    • Balanced pressure pump systems
    • In-line eductor
    • Around the pump proportioners

                             PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Currently there is no U.L. standard or approval process for Class A foam concentrates. Class A foam concentrates should be tested and evaluated in accordance with NFPA 298 Draft International Specification, Class A Foam for Wildland Fires, Aircraft or Ground Applications, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Interim Requirements for Foam for Wildland Fires, Aircraft or Ground Applications.
